Viktoria Bohunicka's Screenwriting Journey
Personal Journey- Motivation and Mission

Born in Slovakia, I traveled widely in search of meaning after a period of loss, hard lessons, and mistakes, compelled by a lifelong curiosity about the world, history, and people. That period of exploration took me from volunteer work in the stark, awe-inspiring landscapes of the Namibian desert, through the layered histories of Europe’s oldest cities, and ultimately to Los Angeles.
The places I encountered, and the people I met along the way, shaped my perspective and my writing, clarifying the voice I now bring to the stories I tell.
I am drawn to character-driven narratives above all else, because I believe character is the core engine of every powerful story. Whether working with true events, legends, or imagined worlds, I am interested in figures and cultures that have been misunderstood, simplified, or flattened over time. I am fascinated by how myth, media, and power shape collective memory—and how easily complexity gives way to judgment. I am less interested in labeling people as heroes or villains than in understanding what formed them.
My writing is psychologically grounded and rooted in empathy rather than spectacle. By examining what lies beneath behavior—fear, grief, and longing—I aim to challenge inherited narratives and invite reflection. I believe understanding is not an excuse, but a starting point, and that by looking more closely at others, we are given the chance to reconsider ourselves.
For me, storytelling is not about moral certainty or simple answers, but about reflection, accountability, and the fragile hope that understanding can lead to change.

Professional Training and Career
I grew up surrounded by languages and cultures that shaped the global lens I bring to every story. I’m fluent in Slovak, Czech, English, German, and Spanish, and currently expanding my list with Russian — skills that allow me to move seamlessly between cultures and perspectives.
After studying at the New York Film Academy, where I wrote, directed, and acted in numerous short films, I now continue to develop my craft through UCLA Extension, guided by industry professionals and building invaluable creative connections.
I also hold a Bachelor’s degree in International Relations, which sparked my growing fascination with history and deepened my understanding of world affairs and cultural dynamics, teaching me to approach every culture with respect, curiosity, and sensitivity.
Before film school, I was an entrepreneur, running my family’s travel and real estate agencies. This background also gives me an entrepreneurial lens in my creative work, helping me approach stories with both artistic purpose and a sense of how to make them marketable and impactful in today’s entertainment landscape.
